Venomous Vixens

Hello Lovelies~

I hope you are all doing well out there. Things are busy, busy as usual over here. To start, I recently did a fun little conceptual shoot entitled Dr. Victoria Frankenstein that explored the idea that Dr. Frankenstein had a daughter as mad as he was who continued his work... and married a skeleton. Ha! Some below and the rest of the series is on Flickr.

Well, my huge series has been released today: Venomous Vixens. People really seem to like it so far, which is great. Inspired by B-movies, 1960's pulp and Barbarella, the series explores a space mission gone terribly awry with disastrous (but beautiful) results. A couple shots are below, the rest (and some candids) can be found on Flickr or Facebook. Someone has already won the Facebook contest for a free prize, but prints and calendars can be found here. Tell me what you think!

And last piece of business, I was asked to donate one of my Hortensia the Bearded Lady prints to The Whiskerinas 1st Annual Ladies Fake Beard & Moustache Competition! This group of women competes (with fake beards) alongside the National Beard Championship men to raise money for charity. This particular print will be raffled to benefit breast cancer research. What a great cause. More about their event here. Thanks for asking, Ladies!

Ooo! Did you hear they're releasing a new version of The Thing?! As you may know, I love horror and that movie (the original from 1982) scared the bejeesus out of me. The arctic, complete isolation, aliens. And the alien is no joke you guys... Like:

No.

NO.

Hell NO.

Okay, maybe.

The point is, I will probably see the remake... but I'll also probably have to wear Depends. Have you ever seen this movie? And if so, did you like it?

Sweet but Deadly...

Hello Lovelies~

Well, the holidays are literally almost here and things have been nutso here at the Mill. (In a totally good way of course.)

First off, I have less than 10 Zom-B-Vex 15-Month calendars left and I want them gone. So, I have reduced the price on those to get them moving. If you've been debating, now's the time to act!

I have mentioned my Dark Harlequins on here a number of times and I just finished a harlequin commission for a friend. She found this huge one at the Goodwill and wanted me to pretty her up. Which, I did. This will probably be my last piece in this series. I love painting on found objects! If you find something that you'd like me to darken up for you, shoot me a message and we'll chitty chat.

Those of you who've followed the blog for awhile know that my Sweetie and I are slowly renovating our mill condo. Well, we put down trim throughout our upstairs to finish off our hardwood flooring this past week. It looks terrific, take a look:

I have a few more additions to my Christmas decor this year that I wanted to share. (As you all know, I love old and strange things... ideally both.) I received this wonderful present from a friend last week. Yes, those are bearded lady ornaments she made herself. I about passed out from glee when I got them and they went right on the tree.

I also found this old Santa head that lights up for a steal! Once I got him cleaned up and hung, he looked great. He'll be creeping us out at Christmas for years to come!

For the final installment of the Holiday Gift Guide do I have some doozies for you. The item of the week, is not for sale (unfortunately), but I wanted to point it out nonetheless. I am finding some wonderful Japanese crafters and illustrators and Hine Mizushima is the latest great find. You may know her shop as Hine on Etsy, I mentioned her a few posts back, but check out this Octowreath... holy smokes. Coveting.

The shop of the week is Kush Kush. Their felt brooches and hair accessories and just general cuteness make me want everything in their store. It may be too late to buy gifts, but I may be gifting stuff to myself from this shop...

Down the Rabbit Hole...

Hello Lovelies!

I hope this post finds you all doing well. I have so much to share! Whew. So, first, my Hortensia the Bearded Lady piece has been featured over at the Totus Mel blog, center for all cool things steampunk. I was happy to get one of my gals up there! Thank you.

I am also wrapping up my three scratchboard pieces that I mentioned in my last post, part of my Night Revery series. These three gems are perfect for Halloween or anytime and they come framed in letter pressed frames from The Curiosity Shoppe that I just got in the mail today! These pieces truly are great and so is the Curiosity Shoppe, check it out. I will be listing these this week.

I am also working on an exciting series of paintings for the Down the Rabbit Hole curatorial at my gallery. That's right, for October, all the artists of SKG are doing Alice in Wonderland related works! Now, I already have an art photo series based on Alice (because I'm obsessed), so I decided to do some paintings this time. "But on what?" I asked myself. Then I found 5 old shoe forms in a junk shop and they were perfect. Here is a taste of the series, the Queen of Hearts. I will age these so they look like they're years and years old and I will post them all for you next time!

I have also found some fascinating new things I wanted share. You all know I'm a sucker for macro photography so it should come as no surprise that Slinkachu's pieces fascinate me. Go to the site and see the little world that's been created. It's cute and wonderful.

It's no secret that I'm a big fan of the Morbid Anatomy blog, I regularly mention various wonderful posts that bring to light things I've never even heard of. Well, here we go again with a recent post on the Anatomical Machines of the Prince of Sansevero created between 1763 and 1764. These amazing pieces were meant to be detailed portrayals of the male and female anatomy that at the time was of course a mystery for the most part. Go to the blog to read the tale of scandal and mystery and scientific discovery that surrounds these two amazing pieces.
