Pinned & Catalogued...

Hello Lovelies!

I hope you are all doing well out there. Things here are busy with a ton of things that are still under wraps/in the works. But soon, I will reveal all. In the meantime, I have finished laying out and putting together a book of my Clue shots. Once I receive my prototype copy and make sure all looks okay, I will put it up for sale via Blurb. It's a beautiful book full of little facts and photos: hard cover, dust jacket, full-color, 20 page art book professionally printed and shipped. I can't wait to show it off!

Speaking of amazing work, I recently stumbled upon an ad campaign via Lost in E Minor for the MASP Art School in Sao Paulo, Brazil. It depicts famous artists being dissected like frogs in a biology class and their insides are done in the style of each artist. Pure genius. Not only is the execution top-knotch (they're green, they're dead looking and they look exactly like the artists), but the idea is eye-catching and inspiring. I love it.

What else? Oh, this work by Kate Baylay is also amazing. Spindly and unsettling and anchored by some amazing imagery and line work, her pieces remind me of the illustrations done by Harry Clarke for Edgar Allen Poe's Tales of Mystery & Imagination. I love when I see imagery that isn't derivative at all, that's rare. And when I look at this work, I can't make heads or tales of it initially for that very reason: it's completely fresh. Great stuff.

Oh! And if you're afraid of heights, you may not want to watch this next video. Holy smokes. This circa 1938 video shows men washing the windows on the Empire State building. Fascinating (and terrifying) footage as it appears they didn't use scaffolding or those elevator platforms back then. Nope, they just tethered themselves in and leaned way out. Ugh. But neat.

And let's wrap up with this amazing photo via Black and WTF (a blog that has a ton of old black & white photos that are simply unexplainable). The caption reads: 1952 - Two Los Angeles policemen and a skeleton named "Mr. Statistic" attempt to warn drivers about traffic fatalities during Labor Day weekend. People really weren't subtle back then, were they? That is a straight up skeleton... Still, some pretty amazing imagery.

Venomous Vixens

Hello Lovelies~

I hope you are all doing well out there. Things are busy, busy as usual over here. To start, I recently did a fun little conceptual shoot entitled Dr. Victoria Frankenstein that explored the idea that Dr. Frankenstein had a daughter as mad as he was who continued his work... and married a skeleton. Ha! Some below and the rest of the series is on Flickr.

Well, my huge series has been released today: Venomous Vixens. People really seem to like it so far, which is great. Inspired by B-movies, 1960's pulp and Barbarella, the series explores a space mission gone terribly awry with disastrous (but beautiful) results. A couple shots are below, the rest (and some candids) can be found on Flickr or Facebook. Someone has already won the Facebook contest for a free prize, but prints and calendars can be found here. Tell me what you think!

And last piece of business, I was asked to donate one of my Hortensia the Bearded Lady prints to The Whiskerinas 1st Annual Ladies Fake Beard & Moustache Competition! This group of women competes (with fake beards) alongside the National Beard Championship men to raise money for charity. This particular print will be raffled to benefit breast cancer research. What a great cause. More about their event here. Thanks for asking, Ladies!

Ooo! Did you hear they're releasing a new version of The Thing?! As you may know, I love horror and that movie (the original from 1982) scared the bejeesus out of me. The arctic, complete isolation, aliens. And the alien is no joke you guys... Like:

No.

NO.

Hell NO.

Okay, maybe.

The point is, I will probably see the remake... but I'll also probably have to wear Depends. Have you ever seen this movie? And if so, did you like it?

Until next time: unpleasant dreams...

Countdown Begins...

Hello Lovelies~

I hope you are all doing well out there. So much to share this week. To start, one week from today, the huge secret project will be revealed! With it will come 12-month calendars and a whole new set of art prints for you to enjoy. So, get excited. The final clue for the giveaway on the Stapelia Facebook page is below. {Remember, the first person to name all 5 clues in order next Monday October 3rd, gets a great prize, so like the page and write them down! [Descriptions are fine.]}

Clue #5

I had a wonderful opportunity recently to photograph a couple of children with CLOVES Syndrome and their families for the CLOVES website. Learn more here. What fun we had! We all went apple picking and enjoyed the beautiful weather. It was a pleasure shooting this one, and the families and kids themselves were so dear. Take a look at some of the shots below, and more are posted on Flickr.

I have yet another shoot coming down the pike for your viewing pleasure next week, so stay tuned! (Hint: It involved my new skeleton Bernard, who, en route to the shoot, was asked to pose in a bridal party shot. Haha!)

I just found yet another thing about the Victorian Era that makes me wish I'd lived back then. Via the blog Spe//bound, comes these photos of Le Cafe de L'Enfer, a hell-themed cafe in Paris' red light district from that time period. I almost can't believe someone opened this up back then. The demons in the bar itself, the elaborate facade?! This is better than the 'death' themed bar I mentioned many posts ago... amazing stuff.

And while we're on the topic of the macabre (which, we're always on that topic around here, aren't we?), I found the beautiful work of UK photographer Ellen Rogers recently and I'm amazed. Her female-centric work looks like old hand-colored travel postcards and the props and costumes? I'm really in awe. Oh, and she has a new book out which I plan to yank up as soon as I can. Take a look:
