Dark Shadows...

Hello Lovelies~

I hope this week finds you doing well out there in the world! I have been busy as usual. Much of what I'm scheming up must be kept top secret for awhile, but I was featured on a blog recently and I wanted to mention it. (I don't normally post blog features, because, like treasuries, they're great, but a bit tedious for the reader.) The woman who writes the AngelLeighDesigns blog however, caught my eye because she created a narrative around this photo of mine! Go check it out, it's kind of neat.

Portland was hopping last Friday night! President Obama was in town for a fundraiser and speaking engagements and Snoop Dogg was performing 2 concerts right across the street. That's a lot of action for this quaint New England town, that's for sure. Well, I didn't see the President, but I did go to the Snoop Dogg show and it was wonderful. I am usually more of a jazz, country, laid back type of girl, but I've loved his music for years and he put on a great show. If he comes your way and you like his stuff, get tickets. Trust me. (Plus, he has a dog mascot that dances on stage the whole time that I found adorable...)

And more exciting news! Have you heard that Tim Burton redid Dark Shadows and it's coming out around May 11th?! For the original fans of the series, I think you may not like it too much because it appears to be a complete satire/tongue-in-cheek comedy. But for the rest of us (and those who love Johnny Depp, Tim Burton, and/or Helena Bonham Carter) this looks like a good time and a good way to kick off spring! I personally can't wait to see it. The trailer is below for your viewing pleasure...



Those of you who've read the blog awhile know that I am a huge Camille Rose Garcia fan. I have almost all of her books and her work is just an inspiration to me. So unique and bright and yet dark too. Well, she has released her version of Snow White recently. (It looks amazing, of course. Check out some of the images below.) But here's the exciting part, she's doing a book signing tour! Dates and locations are here and it looks like she might even come to New York and Philly! (Too bad those are still to far away for me to go.) What do you think you guys, great work, huh?

I'm going to send you Lovelies off with this amazing image I found the other day. Not sure who these two are, but what a great shot, huh? Can you imagine asking a little person to get into a tuba and play a trumpet in this day and age?! I don't think so... Things were obviously much different then.

Coney Island Jewels

Hello Lovelies!

I hope this Monday finds you all doing well wherever you are. I have been busy as usual in the old Mill, making some great things for you all and for various other endeavors.

First, I did a little spring cleaning and re-organized my shop by subject so it's easier to find the things you seek. I have also added a "Soon to be discontinued" section to phase some older stuff out and make room for the new. When these items expire, they're gone for good! And lastly, I also re-organized my website so you can more quickly and easily view my photography and paintings! It's all about you Dearies.

To complete the business portion of our programming, I have listed some great new photos from my New York trip that I think you'll appreciate. Picture below are just a few: Coney Island Mural, a new Facon de Parler entitled Dark Playland, and Nathan's Hot Dogs

Ooo! I have to tell you all about a book my Sweetie gave to me recently. As you know, I am a huge Camille Rose Garcia fan. Like, huge. I would like to eventually own all of her books (in lieu of an actual print or piece of work... sigh). I just added Saddest Place on Earth to my collection! It covers some of her earlier work and discusses the philosophy behind some of her exhibitions. Not only is the work top-knotch, but the feelings she describes trying to illicit from her viewer were in fact elicited from me while I was viewing... which is rare I find. Check it out!

Speaking of original work that I'm coveting, I have recently stumbled upon a clearing house for original art and illustration I want to share! The Inkwell Art House site has a little bit of everything; Dr. Seuss, Maurice Sendak, Jack Davis, Al Jaffee and a ton of other illustrators I love, all for sale! Now, some are nutso price-wise, but there are a few romance novel covers (I know, I can't believe it either), that I really like and may buy. I mean, Jack Davis?! For a Mad Magazine/EC Comics dork like myself, this is big.

I have also found a wonderful illustrator via Threadless who I want to point out. Esther Arrts' shirts fly right off the shelves over there and I managed to nab two and felt lucky. Her portfolio is even better. Check it out y'all! Very neat sort of 60's mod-inspired stuff.

Let's wrap up with a weird news story, shall we? I have a doozy this week. Did you kids read about the Berlin woman who was arrested for trying to smuggle her deceased husband onto a plane in Liverpool? Yeah, she claims he was "alive when she left the house" but then, upon arriving at the airport, "he suddenly appeared so lifeless, like a wax figure"... This did not however, keep her from pushing him around the airport Weekend at Bernie's style with sunglasses on until she was in fact, arrested. Yiiikes, yikes people. Whew.

Life of the party indeed...

Cold Days...

Hello Lovelies!

I hope those of you in the Northern Hemisphere are staying warm. It's been cold here at the Mill for sure. I have so much to share as usual! First, my Time print was featured in a beautiful Treasury by a fellow Maine Team member. Great items here. Thank you!

And, since you all seem to like my tales of junking and salvage, I wanted to show you the cutest cocktail picks I found the other day. I really like vintage barware and the occasional cocktail pick or swizzle makes it in if it's especially unique. Look at these little guys! I believe these were made by Carstairs White Seal Whiskey, a brand that I think is still being made? I love the peppermint striped string on that one. Neat stuff.

While we're on the subject of salvage, I found the neatest salvage site the other day. Agent Gallery Chicago, is a high-end salvage shop that makes even everyday objects look like works of art. They have some dental/optometry items that are wonderful. Oh, I wish things like this were in my budget...

I have found a wonderful newish shop on Etsy recently that I wanted to share. Ghosthaus sells one-of-a-kind art pieces that combine conduit boxes, lights and old slides to create warm little vintage vignettes. I think these are wonderful and I plan on purchasing one soon. In fact, the shop owner is very sweet and said he would set aside any carnival/circus slides he happens upon and make one especially for me! Love it.

Totally random, I know Christmas is behind us, but I was on the Twig and Thistle blog the other day (which is wonderful), and I happened upon a circus-themed Christmas... Needless to say that's what I'll be doing next year. Aren't these ornaments the bees knees?

And finally, the whole Alice in Wonderland craze has everyone getting into the act and my favorite artist Camille Rose Garcia is no exception. She has illustrated a brand new version of Alice and it comes out tomorrow! I have already pre-ordered mine via Amazon. Wonderful things here...
