Hot Dark Nights...

Hello Lovelies!

Whew, I just wrapped up a hot, beautiful holiday weekend here at the Mill. Lobsters, cold beverages and laughs were to be had and it was wonderful. In honor of the nice hot summer weather here in the Northern Hemisphere, I have posted some newphotography to the shop. Take a peak:

I have had quite a bit of success here recently with my original paintings (the Seeds of Darkness portrait from last week has already sold), and so Iwill be listing more original work in my shop. Keep your eyes peeled for that. I will make announcements here too.

I did a little shopping over the weekend and my purchases were so funny (and so me) that I thought I'd share. Yes, that's a squirrel knife for camping, and a Hello Kitty makeup bag. And yes, I will use both. That's me in a nutshell Folks. Haha.

I have found a great photographer whose work I wanted to share. Debbie Carlos has done a lot of different types of photography, which I find refreshing, but my favorites (pictured below) she took at the Chicago Field Museum. Those birds? I love them.

And now I'm going to take you from classy and muted to crazy town. Stefan Strumbel's work definitely toys with ideas of mass consumerism and gluttony, but he puts these strong statements into a technicolor palette that's confusing at first, right before it becomes awesome. Take a look:

I ordered a copy of Dr. Phibes (the movie I mentioned last post), and as soon as I watch it, I will be putting a mini review up for humor's sake. Right now, you'll have to be satisfied with a crazy news story. Did you Kiddies read about the maggots on a plane? Apparently, a US Airways flight leaving Atlanta was taxiing for takeoff and people started noticing maggots falling from the overhead compartments. Not oxygen masks. Maggots. So, they turned the plane around and fumigated. Turns out, one of the passengers brought rotten meat onboard in his carry-on. What? Yes, this is real life.

And that flight was still less awkward than this opera...

Dark City...

Hello Lovelies!

I hope you are all well. I am posting a day late this week because I was in New York for a long weekend for Broadway Bares, an AIDS fundraiser that was absolutely amazing. So many talented performers, so many beautiful bodies, I almost forgot I was doing charity work! We also caught the Mermaid Parade at Coney Island which was just sheer mayhem... in a good way. I took some photos on my trip and I'll be posting more on my Flickr page, so check them out!

I am currently wrapping up a large painting that I'll post pictures of when it's finished. I'm keeping my progress under wraps until the very end... Next week my Lovelies!

And speaking of fantasy photography (not that we were...), have you seen the work of Lissy Elle? She says she "wishes she was a little girl without the weight of the world" and I think she captures this innocence and purity in a heartbreakingly genuine way through her work.

While we're on the topic of calming, beautiful work, I found this tumblr page called Quiet Time that has a ton of great National Geographic photography that someone loved and scanned in for others to enjoy. Some of the shots are scenic, others are chaotic, but they're all very pretty in their own way. Take a peek...

Let's wrap up with nutso news, shall we? I can't wait to share this tidbit with you folks. So, apparently, online retailer ThinkGeek sold canned unicorn meat as an April Fool's joke several months back. The product itself I guess is like SPAM? I'm not sure. But the description of unicorns and the meat itself was completely hilarious and ridiculous. But that's not the funny part. Apparently, they labeled their meat the "new white meat" and now, the National Pork Board has issued a cease and desist letter stating that "new white meat" infringes on their "the other white meat" slogan... really? Yes, really. I couldn't make this stuff up folks...

Coney Island Jewels

Hello Lovelies!

I hope this Monday finds you all doing well wherever you are. I have been busy as usual in the old Mill, making some great things for you all and for various other endeavors.

First, I did a little spring cleaning and re-organized my shop by subject so it's easier to find the things you seek. I have also added a "Soon to be discontinued" section to phase some older stuff out and make room for the new. When these items expire, they're gone for good! And lastly, I also re-organized my website so you can more quickly and easily view my photography and paintings! It's all about you Dearies.

To complete the business portion of our programming, I have listed some great new photos from my New York trip that I think you'll appreciate. Picture below are just a few: Coney Island Mural, a new Facon de Parler entitled Dark Playland, and Nathan's Hot Dogs

Ooo! I have to tell you all about a book my Sweetie gave to me recently. As you know, I am a huge Camille Rose Garcia fan. Like, huge. I would like to eventually own all of her books (in lieu of an actual print or piece of work... sigh). I just added Saddest Place on Earth to my collection! It covers some of her earlier work and discusses the philosophy behind some of her exhibitions. Not only is the work top-knotch, but the feelings she describes trying to illicit from her viewer were in fact elicited from me while I was viewing... which is rare I find. Check it out!

Speaking of original work that I'm coveting, I have recently stumbled upon a clearing house for original art and illustration I want to share! The Inkwell Art House site has a little bit of everything; Dr. Seuss, Maurice Sendak, Jack Davis, Al Jaffee and a ton of other illustrators I love, all for sale! Now, some are nutso price-wise, but there are a few romance novel covers (I know, I can't believe it either), that I really like and may buy. I mean, Jack Davis?! For a Mad Magazine/EC Comics dork like myself, this is big.

I have also found a wonderful illustrator via Threadless who I want to point out. Esther Arrts' shirts fly right off the shelves over there and I managed to nab two and felt lucky. Her portfolio is even better. Check it out y'all! Very neat sort of 60's mod-inspired stuff.

Let's wrap up with a weird news story, shall we? I have a doozy this week. Did you kids read about the Berlin woman who was arrested for trying to smuggle her deceased husband onto a plane in Liverpool? Yeah, she claims he was "alive when she left the house" but then, upon arriving at the airport, "he suddenly appeared so lifeless, like a wax figure"... This did not however, keep her from pushing him around the airport Weekend at Bernie's style with sunglasses on until she was in fact, arrested. Yiiikes, yikes people. Whew.

Life of the party indeed...
